Handling the Recovery Agent

Once the Recovery Agent finds your automobile, he usually gets it. If he approaches you, or you spot him, he will insist you turn over the the automobile. You will, of course, say no. Usually the Recovery Agent does not talk to you. The Recovery Agent will trail you and wait until he can swipe the vehicle when you are not looking. This way he is successful.

However, he will talk to you if it is absolutely necessary to get the car. Vehicles parked in garages are safe from being repossessed. If the Recovery Agent cannot locate the vehicle on the street, at a mall, or at your work, he will ring your doorbell and ask you to hand the car over.

After the Recover Agent has taken the automobile, he may try to make a deal with you for the keys. He may give you time to collect your belongings from the automobile if you give him the keys.

When a Recovery Agent talks to you, he may lie, threaten, yell, stomp his foot and shake his fist. However, without a cop and an order from the court giving him the right to take the automobile, he has no power to do anything. The car repo man only two options are to get you to give up the vehicle or steal it from you.

To correctly tow an automobile by two wheels, the driving wheels must be raised. By using this information, you can make it hard or impossible for the Recover Agent to take your car. For example, a front wheel drive car must have the front wheels raised in order to roll freely when towed.

If you park your front wheel drive with the hood forward in your parking spot and the Recovery Agent cannot reach the front of the car, the Recover Agent should not tow the car. If he tows the vehicle by the rear tires, he may cause mechanical damage in the transmission. It takes much longer to pull the car from a parking spot and correctly load the car on the tow truck when the front end is not available.

This is the proceedure he uses. He lifts the back tires, ties them down, tugs the automobile from your property or the parking space, into the street, out where he can reach the front end, and attaches the tow truck to the front tires. And he makes noise. The plan is to grab the car and leave, without giving you a chance to stop or confront him.

One option for the Recovery Agent is to break into your automobile when you are asleep. All he needs to do is get the door open, release the latch for the hood, and manually slip the transmission into neutral.
